Where are all the jobs?

Written by Bella Gallo

The older generations are always saying: “Get a job, it will solve all of your problems.” But, what if you already have a job or two or even three, and you still can’t get by? Better yet, what if you can’t even find a job to begin with?

We all know how bad the job market has been, we’ve all lived it. I wish I had solutions for you, but I’m in the same boat. It is getting harder and harder for young people to find jobs. Trying to find side hustles, budgeting, and applying to hundreds of jobs a week is still not working. What is our generation missing that our parents’ generation had?

I mean I have a job yet I can still barely afford my rent, let alone food, on top of school. I’ve practically been begging to work and still no change. The lack of security is alarming. So many of my friends have been actively applying for 2 years without a response. The reason I keep hearing is that businesses are more cautious about hiring due to high interest rates, and an influx of people coming to live in big cities like Toronto.

So basically, it’s scary out here. I know that’s probably not what you all wanted to hear, but it’s the truth. Unless any of you have some magical solutions for me, I guess we’ll have to wait it out.
